Health care research can be complicated

Q Market Research Health Care Research

Q Market Research has a long history of serving health care clients. Many of the major health care plans in Minnesota have been clients; as have some health systems in other states. Some research examples are shown below.

Product Development

Multiple health care systems

Product development research, leading to product features, pricing and naming. Have done studies for the following products: online care, mental health treatment, ACOs, chronic care, biometric screening, among others. Research includes consumer studies, broker interviews and care delivery staff interviews. Plus competitive reviews.

Competitive Intelligence in Orthopedic Care

For major health care organizations

Q Market Research was retained to assess the competitive standing of several orthopedic care providers relative to the client. Research included interviews with several ortho care systems and a survey of people who had orthopedic care. Assessed brand awareness, reach, strengths and weaknesses, and opportunities for differentiation.

Re-Branding of Women’s Health Care

East-Coast Hospital

Dropping enrollment in women’s health care in both the main hospital and their women’s clinics were assessed by Q Market Research. Included a competitive review, interviews with department heads and clinic managers, and a population survey of women to understand awareness, brand perceptions, strengths and opportunities.

National Study on Chronic Pain

California drug treatment center

A survey of adults in the U.S. suffering from chronic pain revealed that many also suffer from addiction to their pain medication. Many consider suicide. Some 80% say that medication does not end the pain. Most want a medical approach that is drug free and actually works. The findings support a drug-free pain management program at a national drug treatment center. Findings were used in medical trade magazines and as a basis for education of outreach and sales reps so they can better present the program solutions.

Health Care Systems Positioning (vs. Competition)

Health Care Systems in disrupted markets

Q Market Research has conducted research for smaller health care systems who are competing against larger or national health care systems, to identify strengths and weaknesses, and opportunities for differentiation and growth of market share. These systems are either in rural areas or in cities where there has been an entrant of a larger competitor.

Chiropractic Care and Neck and Back Pain

Multi-State chiropractic association

Chiropractic treatment for neck and back pain was shown to promote healing and reduce time away from work more than alternative approaches. However, the research uncovered roadblocks: many people thought they needed a referral to see a chiropractor (which most health plans do not require). Others overestimated the cost of chiropractic care. This information was used in media publicity and led to public education about chiropractic care as a low-cost and effective care approach for neck and back pain. Findings posted on website and blogs.

Marijuana and Youth Population Survey

For national addiction treatment organization

A survey of young adults about their attitudes toward marijuana and their use patterns uncovered a surprising correlation between use by the young person and prior use by their parents. This information became the basis for media outreach, which landed $800,000 of unpaid radio, television and newspaper publicity in the market areas. The sponsoring organization also uncovered information that will help them approach parents with a convincing story that that demonstrates their expertise in drug dependency and treatment.
